When a child, under the age of 5, decides that they want to be a dog, they are not “trans-species”. They are a child with an active imagination. If that child decides to walk around the house on all fours while barking, that’s their prerogative. That is unless it disrupts the household. If said child refuses to eat sitting at the table because they want to be a dog, and dogs eat out of bowls on the floor, said child should go hungry.
See what I did there? I drew a line where playtime was over.
Pandering to an unreasonable child by allowing them to eat out of a bowl on the floor is child abuse. It would be the same as letting a child play out in the street because they want to be car. Granted, pretending to be dog won’t have the same physical consequences as playing in the street, but not setting boundaries is abuse.
So what if somewhere between the ages of 5 and 18 that child decides they do not like their gender? Now I’m not talking about a boy who wants to play with dolls or a girl who plays with cars. I’m talking about the boy who wants to be a girl and the girl who wants to be a boy. Should the parent give that child hormone therapy and plastic surgery “because the child wants to”?
No. To do so would be pandering and abuse.
The human brain isn’t done developing until around the age of 25, so to give in to what a person “wants” before that age can be really damaging. Children aren’t going to be the same people at age 10, 15, 20 or 25. Sure, they’ll have a most of the same traits, but perspective and maturity will have changed.
After the age of 18 and they’ve left their parents’ home, (not likely these days) if said child wants to eat out of a bowl on the floor, they can have at it! They just can’t expect a restaurant, or anybody else, to serve them that way.
If a person acts like a dog, looks like a dog and/or thinks they are a dog, they still are a human being. Likewise, if a man acts like a woman, dresses like a woman, had surgery to physically look like woman and takes female hormones, he is still a man.
Olympic Gold Medalist, Bruce Jenner decided somewhere along the line that he’s really a woman. He’s done everything to make himself look like a woman – he even changed his name to Caitlyn. You know what? He is still Bruce Jenner, and he has the male DNA to prove it. Never mind that he won “Wo-man of the Year”, he’s still a he.
If a person wants to pretend that they are a dog, that’s their prerogative. The same goes for a man pretending to be a woman, a woman pretending to be a man, or somebody else pretending they are a choo choo train. In all reality, people can do whatever floats their boat and they have the right to pretend that they are something that they are not.
The real kicker is that the rest of us aren’t obligated to play along with the charade.
