Ice cream is my favorite. If given a choice, chances are I will choose ice cream. There are very few flavors of this cool treat that I do not like. Birthday cake ice cream is one of those. So while I won’t snub the offering as somebody’s guest, I certainly wouldn’t choose it given another option. I find birthday cake ice cream to be perilously in bad taste.
But I digress.
My favorite flavor of ice cream is Cookies & Cream. I just do not tire of this concoction of yumminess. There’s a distinct possibility that I could partake of it every day. While I haven’t tried to accomplish this goal, I have come close.
The other day as I sat down to savor the cool, refreshing blend of chocolate sandwich cookie and vanilla, I was reminded of Psalm 34:8 –
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
How does one know if the food put before them lives up to the standard of the presentation? It may please the eye. It’s aroma my stimulate the appetite. But one won’t know for sure if the flavor matches what is taken in by the senses unless they taste and see.
If the proof of the pudding is in the taste, then taste of Jesus Christ and see that He is good!
As I consumed my snack, I also realized that I was enjoying every bite. Each sampling was as good as the previous. While the ice cream softened in texture, the flavor remained the same. The only disappointing morsel was the last, and that’s only because there wasn’t any more. So like my ice cream, which is good from beginning to end, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) I also had another revelation: Unlike ice cream, Jesus doesn’t end. He is the same forever!
My last thought on this subject came while I was sharing it with Tori: If I eat too much ice cream, I will make myself sick. So, unlike ice cream, which has to be consumed in moderation, I can never get enough of Jesus.
